The Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) programme offered by the Department of Human Resource Management, University of Kelaniya, has taken significant strides in establishing strong international collaborations to ensure the highest quality in postgraduate HRM education. As the pioneer in postgraduate HRM education in Sri Lanka since 2006, the department has continually demonstrated excellence and innovation. Building on a robust foundation of expertise developed since its inception in 1995, the department introduced the MHRM degree in 2010, further strengthening its leadership in the field.

The MHRM Kelaniya programme is designed to equip its learners with comprehensive academic knowledge complemented by essential practical perspectives. This is achieved through a well-balanced integration of renowned academics and experienced industry practitioners, a combination that has consistently proven to be a key success factor. In recent years, the programme has also incorporated an element of international exposure, enhancing the global competitiveness of its learning partners.

Structured over two years and four semesters, the programme offers a progressive learning experience. The first semester focuses on foundational subjects such as Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Managerial Communication, Sociology, and Psychology. The second and third semesters deliver specialized and advanced knowledge in Human Resource Management. The final year emphasizes the application of acquired learning through research or skills-based projects, allowing students to choose pathways that best align with their professional aspirations. The first year of study is equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma in HRM, while successful completion of the second year leads to the award of the Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, affirming both academic mastery and professional readiness.

Eligibility Criteria

A relevant degree from a recognized university/Institution; or
Professional qualification from a recognized body, accepted by the University Senate; and
Satisfactory performance at the selection test (interview/examination);
Good command of English.

Programme Fee Structure

The total investment LKR 365,000/=.
The initial payment is LKR 160,000/= and the balance to be paid in three (03) installments.

Course Duration and Instructional Structure

The medium of study is English.
This is a two (02) year program.
The students are awarded the qualification of "Postgraduate Diploma in HRM" if they wish to discontinue the programme after the first year.
Lectures are conducted on weekends.
